About this postcard
A view across the artificial lake in Hollenbeck Park, Los Angeles, with a curving flower-lined walk along the near shore, palms and dark evergreens framing the water, a small island in the distance, and white swans on the surface. The park was laid out in the 1890s on land donated by the Hollenbeck family in Boyle Heights, east of the Los Angeles River, and its lake and boathouse made it a popular outing for Angelenos in the early 1900s. The note on the back is ordinary social correspondence: the writer thanks the recipient for a kind thought and declines a dinner invitation, hoping she will have an enjoyable day.
