A view across the artificial lake in Hollenbeck Park, Los Angeles, with a curving flower-lined walk along the near shore, palms and dark evergreens framing the water, a small island in the distance, and white swans on the surface. Hollenbeck Park was laid out in the 1890s on land donated by the Hollenbeck family in what is now the Boyle Heights area, and its lake and boathouse made it a popular early-20th-century pleasure ground for Angelenos.
