Lake Mead looking toward the Narrows, Boulder Dam, NV, circa 1936

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

The view looks across the blue water of Lake Mead toward the Narrows, a gap between towering rust-colored rock walls, with a lone figure standing on the shore at lower left. The reservoir was formed by Boulder Dam, completed in 1936 and later known as Hoover Dam. Its drowned canyons and banded cliffs became a tourist sight in the late 1930s and 1940s. The printed text calls the water Boulder Lake and gives a depth of 587 feet at this point, while the caption uses Lake Mead; the card also places the dam on the Union Pacific system.
