About this postcard
A large-letter greeting card spells out "DES MOINES" in tall outlined block letters, with "IOWA" in red below and an eagle with spread wings at upper left. Inside the letters are views of the city: a downtown street of commercial buildings, a windmill-like tower, and the gold-domed Iowa State Capitol with its surrounding grounds and parked cars. The Iowa State Capitol, completed in 1886, is one of the state's best-known landmarks, and large-letter cards of this style were popular souvenirs from the 1930s through the 1950s.
