About this postcard

A large-letter greeting card on a black ground: the word "GREETINGS" is built from oversized letters, each one filled with small vignette portraits of women and children, with "FROM" in white capitals below and the place name written in script on a scroll flanked by pansies and leaves. Large-letter "Greetings from..." cards were a staple of early 20th-century American postcard publishing, letting a single design be reissued for hundreds of towns by changing only the name panel. The portraits here are generic studio-style types rather than identified local residents.
