About this postcard
A large-letter souvenir card spells out LAWRENCE in block letters filled with small views of the town — a domed courthouse-like building, a bridge over the Kansas (Kaw) River, campus structures and a tower — set over a football-shaped field of red brick texture. The card bills Lawrence as the "Home of State University" of Kansas. Lawrence was founded in 1854 by New England emigrant aid settlers, and the University of Kansas opened there in 1866; the tower shown is likely the Kansas Memorial Union or Dyche Hall area of Mount Oread. Curt Teich's "2B" series numbers date this style of linen card to about 1942.
