About this postcard

The large-letter greeting spells SANTA FE in block letters filled with New Mexico scenes: adobe pueblo buildings, a cross-topped monument, a plaza with a figure in a red blanket, a tree, a Native American in a feathered headdress, a mission church, and a burro caravan. Two pack burros, a woman in a ruffled dress holding flowers, and a mariachi trio in sombreros surround the letters, with NEW MEXICO in red below. The printed caption calls Santa Fe 'CITY OF THE HOLY FAITH' and 'END OF THE SANTA FE TRAIL,' invoking the Conquistadores, wagon trainmen, dancers, and friars who followed the flag of Spain. Santa Fe, founded in 1610, is the oldest capital city in the United States and a long-standing center of Pueblo and Spanish colonial culture. The Santa Fe Trail made the city a trade terminus for goods moving west from Missouri in the 19th century.
