About this postcard

A large-letter "Greetings from VIRGINIA" card, with the state name filled by small scenic views and a larger view of the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond at lower right; dogwood blossoms illustrate the state flower. The Virginia State Capitol, designed by Thomas Jefferson and completed in 1788, is the seat of Virginia's government and a National Historic Landmark. The American dogwood (Cornus florida) has been Virginia's state flower since 1918. Large-letter linen cards of this style were popular from the 1930s through the 1950s.
