Large letter Hello from Casper, Wyoming, 1941

About this postcard

The large letters spell "Hello from CASPER WYOMING," each block filled with a different local view: a downtown street, a stone gateway or monument, a white civic building with a flag, a golf course, red rock formations, and a dam and reservoir. A wide panorama of the town and surrounding hills runs beneath the letters, and the blue background is drawn with oil derricks, storage tanks, and small houses. Casper was a railroad and oil-refining town in central Wyoming, and the card presents it as the "Capital City" of a great oil empire and the center of a new irrigation and power district tied to the Seminoe and Alcova dam projects on the North Platte River. The caption also points to the mountain and prairie scenery and the historical sites around the city, calling it a breezy, bustling western place "going places."
