About this postcard
A close-up shows the head of a largemouth bass hanging from a cord passed through the gills, with its spotted, scaled back and one eye filling the frame. The printed caption reads "It was weighed by the / Scales on its Back," a pun on the fish's scales and a weighing scale. The sender, Earnest Henke of Arnolds Park, writes that he does not know when he will come down, wants to take in the 'old settelors picknick' at river Side (likely Old Settlers picnic at Riverside), and plans to run his stand and stay there for the winter. Arnolds Park was a resort and amusement park on West Okoboji Lake, and souvenir stands like C. P. Benit's sold comic fishing cards to summer visitors.
