About this postcard

A view north along Lauderdale Street in Selma, Alabama, a broad residential avenue shaded by a dense canopy of mature trees, with frame houses and porches set back behind lawns and fences on either side. The card's own caption names the street and city; the coloring is hand-tinted over a photographic view. Selma, on the Alabama River, was a leading cotton market and river port, and its Lauderdale Street became one of the city's noted residential avenues, lined with 19th-century homes.
