Laurel Hill rises in Forest Park, Springfield, Massachusetts, where a white stone pavilion or memorial with a lion statue and a columned canopy sits on the grassy slope. A tall sculpted monument stands to the right, and below the hill a small lake and another pavilion are visible under a pink and blue sky. Forest Park was Springfield's large municipal park, a late nineteenth-century landscape of lawns, drives, and overlooks, and Laurel Hill was one of its named scenic points.
