Le Remblai et la plage, La Baule, France

Card type
Real photo

About this postcard

A wide curve of sand along the bay at La Baule, with the promenade and its road in the foreground. People relax on the sand and in the water, beach tents and bathing cabins line the shore, and open cars drive along the seafront. Buildings and a palm tree stand at right. La Baule was one of the fashionable Atlantic resorts of the Belle Époque, reached by rail from Nantes and laid out around its remblai, the long seawall promenade that gives the card its caption. The sender was touring Brittany by bicycle, hoping the machine would "stand the pace" and reporting "glorious weather" on the road.
