Le Remblai et la plage, La Baule, France, 1951

About this postcard

A broad curve of sand sweeps along the bay at La Baule, with the promenade and its road in the foreground. Holidaymakers relax on the sand and in the water; beach tents and bathing cabins line the shore, and open cars run along the seafront. Buildings and a palm tree stand at right. La Baule was an established Atlantic resort near Nantes, known for its long beach and the remblai, the seawall promenade along the bay. The sender is touring Brittany by bicycle, reports "glorious weather," and hopes the bike will "stand the pace" on a trip done "the hard way."
