About this postcard
An elevated view looks down on the winding Lee Highway as it climbs through wooded green hills toward Skyline Drive in western Virginia. Small farmsteads sit in the valley below. The caption places the scene on U.S. 211 east of Luray, near the Lee Highway entrance to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. The Lee Highway was one of the named auto trails that predated the numbered U.S. highway system, and Skyline Drive, built along the Blue Ridge in the 1930s, became a central attraction of Shenandoah National Park. The caption pairs the Lee Highway name with U.S. 211, though the Lee Highway is usually associated with U.S. 11.
