Lewiston Bridge, Niagara River, Niagara Falls, NY, circa 1915

About this postcard

The view from the bank takes in the Lewiston Bridge, a wire-cable suspension span with tall lattice towers and an open truss roadway over the Niagara River. Wooded, rocky slopes rise behind the bridge, and the river runs below. The bridge stood in the Niagara Gorge downstream of the falls, linking Lewiston, New York, with Queenstown, Ontario (likely Queenston). A suspension bridge had crossed there since 1851 and was rebuilt more than once before the steel arch that replaced it opened in 1962.
