About this postcard
A suspension bridge with tall lattice towers and a truss roadway spans the Niagara River, seen from the bank with wooded, rocky slopes rising behind and the river rushing below. The card names it the Lewiston Bridge, the crossing in the Niagara Gorge downstream of the falls that linked Lewiston, New York, with Queenston, Ontario. A suspension bridge was first thrown across the river at Lewiston in 1851 and was rebuilt more than once before the present steel arch span of 1962; the view here shows the wire-cable suspension structure with its open lattice deck.
