Lilac blossoms and geese before a cottage, Hearty Greetings postcard, circa 1910

Card type
Lithograph

About this postcard

A spray of purple lilac fills the foreground of this greeting design, with white geese on a pond and a grassy path behind. A small red-roofed cottage sits among trees in the distance, framed by an arch of white beads against a pale blue sky. The printed caption reads "Hearty Greetings," but the pencil message is an Easter note from Y S to Aunt Lee: the sender cannot come for the holiday, hopes to be home soon, and asks Aunt Lee to come down. Lilacs bloom in spring, so the floral scene suited an Easter card, while the geese and cottage gave it a quiet rural setting common in early 20th-century greetings.
