About this postcard
A still pond edged with lily pads and reeds, shaded by dense shrubs and trees, with a small rustic stone bridge and a lamp post among the foliage. Lincoln Park runs along Chicago's lakefront north of downtown, laid out in the 1860s on the grounds of the former City Cemetery and expanded over the following decades with lagoons, conservatories and formal gardens. The lily pond was one of its quieter corners, a scene visitors sent home as a souvenir of the city. The sender wrote from Illinois in mid-November 1906 and addressed the card to Mrs. Louise G. Swain in Chatham, New Jersey, where it arrived a few days later.
