About this postcard
The picture shows the water-lily ponds of Tower Grove Park in St. Louis, with lily pads and yellow and pink blossoms covering the still water, flower beds and shrubs along the banks, and a long glasshouse range with a tall brick chimney behind the trees. Tower Grove Park was laid out in the late 1860s on land given by Henry Shaw, the founder of the adjacent Missouri Botanical Garden, and was designed in the English park style with carriage drives and ornamental plantings. The lily ponds and the greenhouse structures seen here were among its horticultural attractions.
