About this postcard
The Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, Illinois, shown at sunset: a tall granite obelisk rising from a terraced base ringed with statuary, an American flag on a pole at right, and trees framing the scene. The tomb, designed by sculptor Larkin Goldsmith Mead and dedicated in 1874, stands in Oak Ridge Cemetery and holds the remains of Abraham Lincoln, his wife Mary Todd Lincoln, and three of their sons. The monument's central shaft is crowned by a bronze statue of Lincoln, with military and allegorical figures grouped around the base.
