Little River Dam and Central Avenue Bridge, Wichita, KS, circa 1934

About this postcard

The Little Arkansas River spills over a low dam in the foreground, with the Central Avenue Bridge crossing behind it on concrete piers and a white railing. Beyond the bridge, a grassy bank with scattered trees and small buildings stretches under a pale sky. The caption calls the stream the Little River, a local shorthand for the Little Arkansas River. The bridge carried Central Avenue over the river, and the dam was a familiar feature of Wichita's riverside landscape in the early 20th century.
