Lobster Wharf, Rockland, Maine, circa 1940

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A view across the water toward a long, low wharf building flying the American flag, with a red-hulled fishing boat and a sailboat offshore and the weathered pilings of an old pier in the foreground. Rockland, on Penobscot Bay, was long one of Maine's leading lobster and fishing ports, and its waterfront wharves handled the lobster trade that made the city famous. The linen-textured, pastel-toned rendering is typical of American view cards of the late 1930s and 1940s.
