About this postcard
A logging crew of about two dozen men poses along a high stack of cut tree trunks, with a steam donkey engine and tall smokestack at right and a horse-drawn wagon at left. Most wear overalls, work shirts, and wide-brimmed hats; felled logs lie scattered in the grass in the foreground. The job was sawing logs for Messing Farm. Steam donkeys powered cables that hauled and stacked logs in early twentieth-century camps, and group portraits like this one were a common way to record a crew and its output.
