About this postcard
The card pictures Longfellow's House, the Georgian clapboard mansion in Cambridge, Massachusetts, shown behind its white fence, flower beds and lawn, with columned portico and dormers under a balustraded roof. Built in 1759 for the Vassall family, it served as George Washington's headquarters during the siege of Boston in 1775-76, as the caption notes. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow lived here from 1837 until his death in 1882, and it is now preserved as Longfellow House-Washington's Headquarters National Historic Site.
