The view looks seaward from Port Antonio, Jamaica, past the town's wharves, sheds, and a tree-covered hillside, with open water beyond. Port Antonio, on Jamaica's northeast coast, grew in the late 19th century as a banana-shipping port and became a winter resort; its sheltered twin harbors drew steamships and visitors from the United States and Britain.
Black-and-white halftone print with wide white margins; overall toning, light edge wear and a few foxing spots.
Unused undivided back; printed "Private Mailing Card" heading with "(POSTAL CARD—CARTE POSTALE)" parenthetical and a stamp box quoting 1d. Jamaica / 1c. U.S. postage — typical of the 1898–1901 private mailing card period. Cream stock, halftone print, light soiling and a few stray ink specks; no postmark, address or message.
