The picture shows the Newburyport, Massachusetts, estate of Lord Timothy Dexter, with a large mansion behind an iron fence whose gateposts and roofline are crowded with statues; in the foreground an ox-drawn wagon and a mounted rider appear on the road. Timothy Dexter (1747–1806) was a wealthy and eccentric Newburyport merchant who styled himself "Lord" and decorated his grounds with figures of notable people. The card reproduces an earlier historical view of the house and its famous statuary.
