About this postcard

The Hygienic Health Food Co. used this order card to line up jobbers for a special combination of health foods: Lotz "Sacchar" Cracker, Keepwell (Malt Syrup) Cracker, Grants Hygienic Crackers, and Grants Hygienic Breakfast Food. A retailer could ask the company to deliver the assortment through its jobber, promise to give the products a display, and let the company advertise the retailer as a seller. Blank lines at the bottom allowed the retailer to change the quantities. Lotz "Sacchar" Cracker was marketed as a sweet cracker made without sugar and containing saccharin, aimed at diabetics and others who avoided sugar. The card reflects the early 20th-century market for health foods and sugar substitutes, with the company operating from Oakland and Berkeley in the East Bay.
