About this postcard

A night view of the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, its floodlit Art Deco tower rising above a low office wing and a landscaped lawn with young trees. Completed in 1932 under Governor Huey P. Long and designed by the New Orleans firm Weiss, Dreyfous & Seiferth, the 34-story building rises 450 feet, then the tallest building in the South, with 249,000 square feet of floor space and a cost of $5 million. More than 30 varieties of imported marble and stone from Italy, France, Spain, Greece, and Belgium were used in its construction. Long was shot in the capitol's corridors in 1935 and is buried on the grounds.
