About this postcard
A winding dirt footpath curves away between tall, mostly bare deciduous trees, with a large trunk filling the right foreground and a canopy of fine branches overhead. The card names it Lovers' Lane in Madison, Wisconsin, a city whose lakeside walks and university grounds made shaded paths like this one popular strolling routes in the early 1900s. The sender, who signed himself Percy, wrote his message in Esperanto, the constructed international language then promoted through clubs and correspondence networks as a common second tongue. He asked for his parents' address so he could send more cards, and summed up the lane in one line: "La loko por mi !!!" (the place for me).
