A black-and-white halftone view of a winding dirt footpath, captioned by the card as "Lovers' Lane, Madison, Wis." The lane curves away between tall, mostly bare deciduous trees, with a large trunk dominating the right foreground and a canopy of fine branches overhead. Such shaded walks were popular romantic strolling paths in turn-of-the-century American towns and college communities, and Madison — home to the University of Wisconsin — was noted for its tree-lined lakeside walks.
