About this postcard
A tall waterfall plunges over a lip of rock into a deep, V-shaped canyon whose walls are banded in yellow, orange and rust-red, with dark pines clinging to the rims and slopes. The view matches the classic overlook of the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a 308-foot fall that has been the signature image of Yellowstone National Park since the 1870s. The canyon's colors come from hydrothermally altered rhyolite lava, and the river below continues toward the Yellowstone's confluence in the park's northern range.
