About this postcard
The view looks down a deep, brightly colored gorge where a tall waterfall plunges over a rock lip into a river that winds away between steep, eroded walls of yellow, orange and rust-colored rock, with dark green conifer forest crowning the rims and filling the far slopes. The scene matches the classic downstream prospect of the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, whose rhyolite walls are colored by iron oxide alteration and whose 308-foot falls were a favorite subject of nineteenth-century painters and later postcard publishers. No caption on this side names the spot.
