About this postcard
A view down Lower Monroe Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with the yellow-brick Hotel Pantlind and its rooftop sign dominating the center of the block. Streetcars, horse-drawn carriages, and a few early automobiles share the wide paved street, and an American flag flies from a pole at left. The Pantlind opened in 1875 and was long the city's leading hotel. It was largely rebuilt in 1913 and later became part of the Amway Grand Plaza. The scene predates that rebuilding, when trolleys and open carriages still mixed with the first automobiles on a downtown commercial street.
