About this postcard
A view down Lower Monroe Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with the large yellow-brick Hotel Pantlind and its rooftop sign dominating the center of the block; streetcars, horse-drawn carriages and a few early automobiles share the wide paved street, and an American flag flies from a pole at left. The Pantlind opened in 1875 and was for decades the city's leading hotel; it was largely rebuilt in 1913 and later became part of the Amway Grand Plaza. The mix of trolleys and open carriages dates the scene to the first decade of the twentieth century.
