Four people pose in a lumber yard beneath a long open-sided shed, standing among the stock and facing the camera. Milled boards are stacked in tall piles behind them, with wooden barrels and a wagon wheel set among the timber. Utility poles and open ground show past the shed's edge.
A yard like this one seasoned and sorted lumber for local builders, and much of the hauling in the period was still done by horse and wagon. The setting reads as a small-town operation rather than a large mill.
