About this postcard

The view shows the tall columned portico of the Administration Building at Lynchburg College, with broad steps and large trees framing the entrance. Classical porticoes were a common choice for American college buildings of the period, meant to suggest permanence and tradition. Lynchburg College had opened in 1903 as Virginia Christian College and took the Lynchburg College name in 1919; by the 1940s it was a small liberal arts college in central Virginia. The card was mailed in 1941, carrying a thank-you note from the Lindsays to a friend in Southbury, Connecticut, after their departure from South Britain.
