About this postcard
A wide view of Lynchburg General Hospital, a multi-wing brick complex seen across a parking lot filled with cars. A utility pole stands in the foreground, and the Blue Ridge foothills lie on the horizon. The printed caption describes "a modern 250 bed institution" in the geographical center of Lynchburg, serving the city and many surrounding counties, and notes that it opened in 1956. The building and its broad lot reflect the postwar hospital expansion, when growing cities built general hospitals scaled for automobile access. Lynchburg General later became part of the Centra Health system.
