The picture shows Machinery Hall at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, a long exhibition building with rows of windows and a domed corner pavilion, viewed across the fairgrounds. The Pan-American Exposition ran from May to November 1901, and Machinery Hall was one of its largest structures, filled with working industrial machinery and electrical exhibits. The fair is also remembered as the site where President William McKinley was shot on September 6, 1901.
