About this postcard

The Madison Avenue Gate at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, an ornate classical colonnade forming one of the park's entrances. Visitors rest on benches beneath mature trees, and a streetcar is visible beyond the gate. Druid Hill Park opened in 1860 on the former Rogers estate and is among the oldest landscaped public parks in the United States. By the early 1900s it served as a popular urban pleasure ground, with promenades, lawns, and shaded walks reached easily by streetcar from neighborhoods across the city.
