About this postcard

The card shows a haloed Madonna in a white headscarf holding and kissing the naked Christ child, framed by an ornate border under the printed greeting "Christmas Greetings!" The image is a traditional Christian Christmas subject. Winifred sent the card from Bedford, Virginia, to Janie Stevens in Huddleston at Christmas 1937, writing about singing at school for the holiday and asking after work and her friend Beulah. Holiday postcards were a common, inexpensive way to send greetings and brief news between friends in small Virginia communities at the time.
