About this postcard

A pale ribbon loops in a broad S-curve through a valley of banded, eroded hills, with dark conifers framing the foreground and slopes. The printed caption names the scene "MAE WEST" and places it on the Rock Creek switchbacks of the Red Lodge-Cooke City Road, the mountain route to Yellowstone National Park. The road climbs from Red Lodge, Montana, toward Cooke City and the park's northeast entrance; completed in 1936, it became a celebrated scenic route into Yellowstone.
