About this postcard

The main entrance to the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City is a stucco Mission-style gateway with a stepped parapet, arched openings, and flanking towers. Small concession buildings on either side carry signs for "A Bargain Store" and "Lunches." By 1909, two years after Oklahoma statehood, the fair was an annual gathering for the new state's farm families. The sender's note says three crops of alfalfa were cut from the ground where these buildings were built, a detail that ties the fairgrounds to the surrounding agricultural economy.
