A large multi-story factory with rows of windows and red horizontal bands fills the view, a tall smokestack rising above the roofline. Railroad tracks cross the foreground, and other industrial buildings stand to the right. The complex is the main plant of the A. C. Lawrence Co. in Peabody, Massachusetts. Peabody was a center of leather tanning, and the A. C. Lawrence Co. was a leather manufacturer there. The tracks in front suggest the plant's reliance on rail for heavy freight.
