About this postcard

View along Main Street toward Franklin Square in Norwich, Connecticut, with trolley tracks curving through the unpaved roadway, horse-drawn wagons and carriages, pedestrians on the sidewalks, and storefronts shaded by striped awnings. Tall utility poles and their wires line the street. Norwich, settled where the Yantic and Shetucket rivers join to form the Thames, was a long-established industrial and commercial center of southeastern Connecticut, nicknamed the "Rose of New England." The mix of horse traffic, trolley rails, and overhead wires places the scene in the early years of the twentieth century.
