The view looks east along Main Street in Waltham, Massachusetts, where a row of multi-story brick commercial buildings lines the left side. Arched windows and red-and-white striped awnings mark the storefronts, while pedestrians, a horse-drawn carriage, and streetcar tracks fill the wide dirt street. Large shade trees line the right side.
A note records a father and child coming to town on a trolley ride. Waltham was a busy industrial city, known for the Waltham Watch Company, and trolley lines connected downtown with neighboring communities.
