About this postcard
A street-level view looks west along Main Street from Eleventh Street in Richmond, Virginia. Trolley tracks run down the cobbled roadway, with horse-drawn wagons and carriages mixed among pedestrians in early-1900s dress on both sidewalks. Tall commercial blocks line the street, including a building lettered "IMPORTERS & JOBBERS" and the American National Bank rising behind it. Main Street was Richmond's principal business thoroughfare in the early 1900s, described on the card as wide, well-paved, and lined with handsome, substantial business structures; the Chamber of Commerce, Custom-House, and Post Office ranked among its prominent buildings.
