About this postcard
View along Main Street toward Franklin Square in Norwich, Connecticut, with trolley tracks curving through the unpaved roadway, horse-drawn wagons and carriages, pedestrians on the sidewalks, and storefronts shaded by striped awnings; tall utility poles line the street. Norwich, settled at the confluence of the Yantic and Shetucket rivers where they form the Thames, was a long-established industrial and commercial center of southeastern Connecticut known as the "Rose of New England." The mix of horse traffic, trolley rails and overhead wires places the scene in the early years of the twentieth century.
