About this postcard

The card is captioned "Main St. Looking North from Capitol Ave., Houston, Tex." and shows a busy commercial street lined with multi-story brick and stone buildings, store awnings, utility poles and wires, streetcar tracks, horse-drawn wagons, and pedestrians. The Capitol Hotel sign is visible on the left. Houston's Main Street was the city's central business and retail corridor in the early 1900s, and the overhead wires and tracks reflect the period's urban transit and utility development.
