About this postcard

A tinted street view looks north along Main Street from its junction with Texas Avenue in Houston, with a yellow-and-brown electric streetcar approaching in the foreground, horse-drawn wagons and buggies farther up the street, and pedestrians on the sidewalks. Tall Victorian-era commercial blocks with ornate cornices and balconies line the left side, while a plainer multi-story brick building and a covered platform or awning occupy the right. By the early 1900s Houston's Main Street was the city's principal commercial thoroughfare, served by an extensive electric trolley system that converged downtown.
